released August 28, 2019

In early 2012 I released an album of piano compositions called 'My Sad Captains'. It showcased a strand of my work that is distinct from both my Dream Pop songs (released under my own name), and my ambient material (released as riverrun).

Some of the tracks on 'My Sad Captains' were among my earliest compositions. I released three ambient albums whilst I was still in High School, and I was composing and scoring works for classical instrumentation long before I thought of myself as a guitarist or singer. And although my priorities have shifted over the years towards guitars and songs, every now and again a new 'Piano Thing' comes along - more or less unsolicited - and I feel obliged to record it.

Two albums in nearly eight years is, admittedly, not much of a work rate, but it's important for me to document this works when they arrive, and put them out when I have enough material for an album.

In early 2017, I was commissioned by Expedia to write a generative classical composition for their World In Tune campaign. The chance to work with entirely classical instrumentation again - the first time since some of those teenage compositions - opened a lot of doors for me, and it's been great fun creating works in a similar vein.

'Arber' is the name of the new album, but it is also the project name that I will be using to release these pieces in the future. On a side-note, it never felt right to call 'My Sad Captains' a "Daniel Land" album, so I've also retrospectively re-classified it an Arber album. Is is now available to download for free under the new project name, from this page.

I'm glad that this strange little album, orphaned in my catalogue, is now part of a family.
